This webinar introduced the work of 1000 Landscapes for 1 Billion People and introduced the idea of integrated landscape finance, emphasizing how it presents a potentially powerful solution for both landscapes and finance providers. The webinar highlighted two different landscape partnerships and outlined their integrated finance strategies. The top takeaways from these presentations included the need for strong governance, facilitation and budget planning in landscape initiatives, as well as the value in conducting financial needs assessments for landscapes. The webinar closed with a participant-led discussion on how funders, investors and landscape partnerships can engage with each other more effectively and improve coordination.
The two landscape partnerships that shared their finance profiles were Conservation International’s landscape in San Martin, Peru which demonstrated how smallholder farmers, government and big players like Starbucks work together to promote a low-carbon and equitable growth strategy. The Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust spoke about the group’s work in Southern Malawi, where the landscape partnership began as a typical conservation trust fund financed by grants but is now seeking a more managerial role over the protected area that will also coordinate other projects within the landscape.
This event is the first webinar of a three-part dialogue series on integrated landscape finance for financial leaders. You can find the second webinar in the series here, and the third webinar here.
