Cocoa & Forests Initiative: Joint Framework for Action Côte d’Ivoire

This joint framework for action lists the core commitments, actions, governance protocols and measurement and monitoring procedures to preserve forests as part of the Cocoa & Forests Initiative. This document is signed by the companies that are participating in the initiative, and is a commitment to work together both technically and financially for the preservation and rehabilitation of forests in Côte d’Ivoire.

The actions that they have committed to are broken down in three sections: actions for forest protection and restoration, actions for sustainable productions and farmers’ livelihoods and actions for community engagement and social inclusion. This framework also lists the measurement and monitoring protocols that the signatory companies have agreed to, such as adoption of verified land use, environmental, socio-economic indicators and annual publicly disclosed reporting by signatory companies and Government on progress and outcomes.

The Cocoa & Forests Initiative brings together the governments of Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and 36 leading cocoa and chocolate companies to end deforestation and restore forests areas.
