A Practical Guide to Integrated Landscape Management

Integrated landscape management (ILM) is a method of fostering resilient landscapes through long-term collaboration among multiple stakeholders. This practical guide has been developed for landscape conveners, implementers, facilitators and stakeholders to make ILM easier and more inclusive for all actors involved. The guide contains links to supplemental tools that have been collated in the ILM Tool Guide to support collaborative landscape planning and action.

The ILM process is broken down into five elements within the guide: landscape partnership, shared understanding, vision and planning, taking action, and impact and learning. Within each element the guide then illustrates up to four concrete outputs that landscape implementors can produce to demonstrate progress to their stakeholders. These outputs include landscape partnership agreements, landscape finance and communications strategies for example.

The guide is the result of a multi-partner collaborative effort led by the founding partners of the 1000 Landscapes for 1 Billion People initiative. It was produced using the expertise of the coalition’s partners that engage with 250 landscape partnerships worldwide, in response to the issues they encountered in multi-stakeholder partnerships in landscapes and the ILM process.
