Jurisdictional Approaches in Indonesia: Progress, Challenges, and Lessons

This Extended Summary report aims to take stock of progress to date in implementing jurisdictional approaches (JA) to advance sustainability throughout Indonesia. The report identifies main areas where progress has been made to build JA platforms and advance shared objectives, common challenges encountered on the ground to achieve measurable impact. It also highlights lessons learned to strengthen existing JAs on the ground and support new ones in other geographies.  The report concludes by offering 14 recommendations aimed at those funding or implementing new or ongoing JAs. These recommendations include strengthening incentives for local executives to support JA, strengthening local and national government engagement and broadening JAs to cover multiple commodities.

This report was commissioned by The Packard Foundation, and is informed by interviews with 60 stakeholders working across local and national government, private sector, civil society organisations, development organisations and other JA practitioners across Indonesia.
