Advancing the Integrated Approach to Tackle Commodity-driven Deforestation

The Global Environment Facility (GEF), in collaboration with UNDP and CIFOR-ICRAF, convened all relevant stakeholders in their Good Growth Partnership (GGP) program as well as independent academic institutions and other experts from the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and inter-governmental organizations to discuss the outcomes of the GGP. This report provides a summary of their findings.

The report outlines key takeaways, it found that engaging with countries and stakeholders on food systems transformation will be critical as the GEF builds on the work of the GGP program it also found that the GEF can foster progress by rallying all actors under a shared vision and strategic roadmap, emphasizing consistent strategies for sustainable production, transparent market signals, and supportive investment. The report also highlights key achievements at a programmatic level, which includes establishing 23 commodity platforms and forums, developing 9 national and subnational action plans, engaging 88 companies in the program’s landscapes and supporting 17,000+ farmers, producers and community members.

The Good Growth Partnership convenes a wide range of stakeholders and initiatives to reduce deforestation and enable sustainable development in three global commodity supply chains: soy, beef and palm oil. Launched in 2017, the Partnership is funded by the GEF, in partnership with the governments of Brazil, Indonesia, Liberia and Paraguay, as well as civil society and major private sector players.
