Agro Plus Program/UFMA completes installation of sanitation system and promotes structural improvements in the Rural Family House of Buriti – MA

On February 11, 2026, the Agro Plus Program team completed the delivery and installation of a septic tank at the Buriti Rural Family House, reinforcing actions aimed at improving infrastructure and sanitary conditions in rural areas.

    The activity involved the organization of materials and the assembly of the components necessary for the full operation of the system, including the installation of the submerged pump, as well as the connection of hoses and electrical wiring, ensuring the proper operationalization of the sanitation structure.

    The initiative represents an important advance for the promotion of environmental health and quality of life in the rural school environment, directly contributing to the creation of more appropriate conditions for the use, coexistence and training of students and the community.

    According to Jaqueline Vaz, representative of the Rural Family House of Buriti: “In the rural context, where access to conventional basic sanitation systems is still often limited, the implementation of septic tanks in educational institutions focused on the countryside represents an important step towards improving sanitary conditions. The initiative also reinforces the educational role of the action, by promoting the learning and involvement of the teaching and student community of the Rural Family House of Buriti, in addition to ensuring the proper treatment of liquid effluents generated by the school community, contributing to the prevention of soil contamination.”

    The action was supported by Professor Telmo Mendes, from Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA), who assisted in the implementation and execution of the activity, contributing to the strengthening of rural sanitation actions and the promotion of better conditions environmental, sanitary and structural in the community served.
