Between September 1st and 3rd, 2026, the Agro Plus Program team participated in the IV Brazilian Symposium on Sandy Soils (SBSA), held in Luís Eduardo Magalhães – BA, with the presentation of scientific papers developed within the scope of the program. The participation reinforced the importance of the experiences built on rural properties in Maranhão and Piauí, expanding the visibility of actions aimed at sustainability and rural development.
During the event, field coordinator Lis Oliveira presented two works. The first addressed the recovery of degraded areas and the environmental regularization of rural properties in the states of Maranhão and Piauí. The second highlighted the adoption of good management practices on properties with sandy soils, contributing to soil conservation and more sustainable agricultural production.
Field coordinator Derllany Sanyelle also presented two scientific papers. The first, entitled “Evaluation of socio-environmental indicators related to soil and water conservation and environmental adequacy in rural properties served by Agro Plus: comparison between the regions of Chapadinha and Balsas”, highlighted the importance of soil and water conservation practices, in addition to environmental adequacy in rural properties.
The second work, “Edaphoclimatic and management factors associated with soybean productivity in Maranhão”, addressed the influence of soil characteristics, climatic conditions and management practices on crop productivity, contributing to expand knowledge about the factors that condition agricultural performance in the state.
In addition, the participation of producer Fernando Devicari, from Fazenda Barbosa, located in Brejo – MA, reinforced the connection between research, technical assistance and production reality, valuing the experiences developed directly in the field.
The general coordinator of the Agro Plus Program, Prof. Dr. Gregori da Encarnação Ferrão, highlighted the importance of the program’s participation in the symposium:
“[Insert speech by Prof. Dr. Gregori da Encarnação Ferrão about the importance of Agro Plus’ participation in the event, the contribution of the works presented and the potential of the Chapadinha region for the development of sustainable and productive agriculture.] “
The Chapadinha region demonstrates that Maranhão not only produces, but also generates knowledge and contributes to the advancement of a more sustainable, efficient agriculture committed to the conservation of natural resources.
Participation in the symposium represented an opportunity to share results, exchange experiences with researchers and professionals in the sector and strengthen the recognition of the initiatives developed by the Agro Plus Program. The presentation of the works reaffirms the program’s commitment to improving socio-environmental indicators, valuing applied research and strengthening sustainable agriculture in Maranhão and Piauí.
