1st Festival of the Coconut Breakers of the Canto do Ferreira Village values the culture, community organization and the babassu chain in the region of Chapadinha – MA

On December 12, 2025, the “1st Festival of Coconut Breakers of Canto do Ferreira” took place, consolidating itself as an important space for valuing community organization, traditional culture and the babassu chain.

    The event was attended by representatives of partner institutions, public figures and members of the Association. On the occasion, the board presented the results achieved throughout the year 2025, highlighting advances in management, in the internal organization and in the actions aimed at strengthening the work of the breakers.
      Throughout the program, the “babassu coconut breaking contest” took place, which highlighted the traditional knowledge, skill, cultural relevance of this practice and tradition of the breakers of Canto do Ferreira. The activity was accompanied by the cultural presentation of the Creole drum of the Quilombo Pequi da Rampa, reinforcing the cultural identity and the appreciation of local traditions. 

     The public was also able to attend the exhibition of products, flavors and traditional knowledge, with a visit to the stands that presented babassu derivatives, further enriching the event.

   The festival was promoted by the Association of Coconut Breakers of Canto do Ferreira, with the support of UEBT, GIZ, AGERP, SEBRAE, IPAM and the Municipal Department of Agriculture of the municipality of Chapadinha – MA.
