This guidance builds upon the previous Tropical Forest Credit Integrity Guide (TFCI), published in May 2022, and contains important additions. This iteration contains new calls for due diligence on the part of companies to ensure the credits they purchase will result in actual climate gains. In addition, the update lays out step-by-step implementation guidance, with a complimentary tool, for companies to offset their carbon emissions alongside the decarbonization of their operations.

The implementation guidance provides detailed, actionable advice intended to help decision makers implementing corporate strategies navigate the tropical forest carbon credit market. It is the result of an 18-month collaborative process and reflects the views of the eight conservation and indigenous rights authoring organisations. The authors of the guide also stress the importance of including Indigenous Peoples and local communities in decisions about offset efforts.
