Forests are essential to climate, biodiversity, and livelihoods. Halting deforestation and restoring our forests is critical and urgent if we want to ensure a sustainable future. But how can we act now to scale-up protection and restoration of the world’s forest?
At COP26, world leaders promised to end deforestation by 2030. To reach this goal, deforestation efforts need to scale-up and overcome the barriers it faces. To be successful, credible, inclusive and high-quality solutions are needed. The purpose of this session is to discuss how to scale-up forest protection and restoration, with the following objectives:
- Discuss the existing barriers in scaling up action and impact
- Present different pathways to drive change and increase impact
- Highlight opportunities of collective action and innovative solutions which are driving the change towards reducing deforestation across the world
